(Memphis) Memphis Police have confirmed the identity of a man they were forced to shoot after they say he fired shots inside a home and also fired shots from behind a bush when officers approached him.

They have identified him as 33-year-old Johnny Taylor.

The officer is identified as Zachary Apel.

The shooting happened Monday on Parkside, not far from Mount Moriah in east Memphis.

Police say this all started when someone at that home called 9-1-1 and hung up quickly.

After that, dispatchers began receiving calls from neighbors who said a mentally unstable man was firing a gun.
