MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis is a city on a mission for greatness.

It’s a city on the edge, a city divided. But it’s ours, and this is our chance for a better tomorrow.

It’s time to heal old wounds, and create new stories of success, by educating our children and by making sure there are enough jobs and everyone feels safe in their own home.

In this chapter of Memphis: On a Mission, WREG’s Alex Coleman reports on how and why Memphis is where it is today, for better or worse.

He explores the idea that Memphis is a tale of two cities, which holds it back from attracting more major companies, well-paying jobs, and new workers, as well as retaining qualified workers who are from Memphis.

“Fundamentally, we’re set up to be divided. We got to fix it, man. It’s got to go away. It’s got to stop. Enough is enough,” successful businessman and high school football coach Bill Courtney said.

“Until we are ready to put aside preconceived notions and get out of our comfort zones, sit down at the table without prejudice and preconceived notions and just talk about fears, concerns, goals and dreams, then we’ll never understand,” he added.

It’s all in an effort to help transform this tale of two cities into a new narrative about one Memphis, a city with a rich history and perhaps a promising future.
