MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis mother arrested for the death of her 2-year-old son is now facing murder charges.

We have the latest now on WREG-TV at 6:30.

Late Monday, authorities upgraded charges against 19-year-old Raven Campbell to first degree murder.

She was previously charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Police say she confessed to placing her son, Jermyle Campbell, underneath a mattress for more than 30 minutes as a punishment.

The child wasn’t breathing when Campbell removed the mattress. He later died at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

The WREG On Your Side Investigators uncovered that Campbell’s family has a long history of problems with DCS, the courts and MPD.
