LAKE CHARLES, La. — A Louisiana state trooper who was shot in the head and critically injured Sunday has died.
Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, 43, was shot when he tried to help a man whose truck was in a ditch. The trooper quickly realized the same truck was wanted on a suspicion of DUI.
Kevin Daigle, 54, faces numerous charges.
Witnesses said Daigle opened the truck’s door and came out with a shotgun. “You could hear him breathing, telling him, ‘You’re lucky. You’re lucky — you’re going to die soon.’ That’s the words that came out of his mouth,” said those who listened to a recording of the interaction.Other drivers stopped the alleged gunman and helped the trooper until paramedics arrived.
Vincent is survived by his wife and young son. Vincent has two brothers also on the State Police force.
