MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Police Officer was arrested for stalking his ex-girlfriend and violating an order of protection.

According to police reports, Joshua Barnes was served with an order of protection in Desoto County on January 8.

On Wednesday, the victim took her car to Firestone where mechanics discovered a tracking device on her car.

She immediately called police and said she would like to file a complaint.

Officers told her she would have to come in and file in person at the location on Union Extended.

As she was on her way in, Barnes was reportedly already on the scene and was told he had to leave.

Instead, he sat in his truck in an adjacent parking lot watching as his ex-girlfriend went inside.

On Thursday, officers arranged a meeting with Barnes where he was taken into custody.

He was charged with aggravated stalking and violating an order of protection.

Memphis Police told WREG Barnes was assigned to the Ridgeway Precinct and is currently relieved of duty.

He has been with the Memphis Police Department since January 2009.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
