PANOLA COUNTY, Miss. — Quinton Tellis, 27, has been indicted on a capital murder charge in the death of Jessica Chambers.
In December 2014, Jessica Chambers was doused with gasoline and set on fire in her car on a rural road in Panola County.
We learned today Tellis became a suspect early on in this case and there are no other suspects.
Investigators said 98 percent of her body was burned.
She died hours later in the hospital.
Tellis and Chambers are both from Courtland, Mississippi.
Currently, Tellis is in jail in Monroe, Louisiana after being charged in connection with the mid-2015 murder of a college foreign exchange student.
Authorities said he is not charged with her murder, but he is a suspect.
He’s being held on a charge of using the victim’s bank card.
Sources told our Caitlin Alexander Tellis and Chambers dated, however neither of her parents said they know anything about him.
According to his Facebook page, Tellis married a woman in Louisiana in August, just before he was arrested in Monroe.
Mississippi will attempt to extradite Tellis but we are told they do not expect to get him until after the case in Louisiana is dealt with.
Once it is, a Governor’s Warrant will be issued to bring him back here.
Federal, state and local investigators gathered evidence since her murder and unveiled everything to a Grand Jury Monday and Tuesday.
The Grand Jury decided there was enough evidence to indict.
More than 150 people were interviewed during the investigation and 20,000 telephone numbers gone over.
Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the murder.
“Emotions can’t describe how I feel,” said Jessica’s father, Ben Chambers. “You look around and think, ‘Did this person have something to do with it? Did that person have something to do with it?'”
WREG asked him what he would say to Tellis.
“Whatever the law allows, whatever Mr. Champion does to him, that’s what I hope happens to him,” he replied.
Chamber’s family told WREG they plan to see Tellis’ proceedings all the way through to the end, which could be possibly be the death penalty.
