The City of Memphis is close to losing its long-held status as Tennessee’s largest city.
According the US Census Bureau, Memphis lost more than 700 residents in the last year while Nashville gained more than 9,000.
The gap between the two cities is now just over 1,000 people.
City leaders say high crime and high tax rates are just a few of the reasons why people are leaving.
It’s important to note that Nashville’s population includes almost all of Davidson County.
Shelby County is still by far the largest county in the state.
