JACKSON, Tenn. — The agent who was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon has been identified.
Special Agent De’Greaun Frazier had only been with the agency since February.
“Agent Frazier was exactly what we look for in a TBI Agent: hard-working, enthusiastic, and dedicated to making Tennessee a better place to live,” said TBI Director Mark Gwyn. “We are deeply saddened by his death and will work aggressively to investigate this case to its fullest. His commitment to our agency and public service will not be forgotten.”
Before that, the 35-years-old was a police officer in Millington and at the University of Memphis, and served as a Reserve Deputy for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. The university released a statement saying, “The University of Memphis would like to express its deepest sympathy to the family of former UofM police officer and TBI Agent DeGreaun Frazier. His tragic death is a terrible loss for us all and speaks to the sacrifice, risk and burden carried by law enforcement officers both in our community and across our nation.” The Jackson Sun is reporting the incident happened Tuesday afternoon near Brianfield Cove. According to the TBI, Frazier was part of an ongoing drug investigation. Frazier was one of several agents who was taking part in a control buy this afternoon around 2 p.m. when someone sitting in the back seat of the vehicle produced a gun and tried to rob the agent and his informant. During the event, the agent was shot. The suspect was taken into custody a short ways away.
