MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teen was raped while she was walking home from Melrose High School in the area of Deadrick Avenue and Pendleton Street in Orange Mound Monday, according to the Memphis Police Department.

The victim told police she was walking home when a man pulled out a knife and forced her to walk to an abandoned house located in the 3100 block of Radford Road where he assaulted her.

“Scary,” said Neighbor Rhounda Jackson.

Neighbors say the house has been abandoned for almost two years.

Rhounda Jackson lives nearby.

“It terrified me to know something like that can happen with your child walking home from school,” said Neighbor Rhounda Jackson.

She says she knew something was wrong immediately.

“I had to come to the door. I saw two police cars and a police van,” she said. “They’re not safe at school, because they get killed at school. Now, they can’t walk to or from school.”

The abandoned house with shattered windows, multiple cars and high grass isn’t just an eye sore for neighbors.

They say it could be a haven for crime.

The suspect was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, gray camouflage boxers and black and blue shoes when the crime took place.

He is wanted for aggravated rape and kidnapping.

No arrests have been made.

This is an ongoing investigation.
