WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. —It’s a call Minnie Eason will never forget.
“I was at work. I got a call from work and I left work running. I didn’t know what to expect.”
Her nephew, Reco Eason, was shot around 11 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of South 20th in West Memphis, Arkansas.
By the time Minnie Eason arrived at the Regional Medical Center, it was too late. The 39-year-old man she treated like her own son for decades was gone.
Now police are trying to determine who took his life.
“They say he was walking from the store. Him and his girlfriend and another guy and some dude pulled up said ‘Reco. What’s up, Reco.’ That’s all I know,” Minnie Eason told WREG’s Melissa Moon.
Police have not released any suspect information but the family said the shooter may have been driving a black Chrysler 300. A car matching that description was found abandoned several blocks away at a vacant home near 15th and Harrison. It’s unclear if that vehicle is in fact the same one driven by the suspect.
As authorities search for answers, Eason’s family is left wondering how they are going to tell his little girl.
“She’s six years old. Only child he had,” said Minnie Eason. “I don’t even know to explain it to her her dad is gone. How do you explain that to a child? Six years old.”
