MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men were rushed to the hospital early Wednesday morning following a shooting call on I-240 near Lamar Avenue.
According to police, the incident happened just before 3 a.m. As part of the investigation, officers shut down the exit ramp.
Both of the victims were in critical condition Wednesday.
“It alarms me. That’s why I be in early at night. At 3 o’clock in the morning, folks could be going to work,” driver William Woods said.
A witness told police he was headed eastbound on I-240 west of Lamar when a black sports car, carrying the two victims, and a white sports car passed him. They were going more than 100 mph.
A short time later another vehicle, possibly a brown or tan Nissan Altima, followed after they approached the Getwell exit.
The white car kept driving, but the black sports car stopped. That’s when the witness says a man got out of the Altima, ran up to the black car and began shooting inside of it.
This is far from the only shooting off the interstate we’ve told you about. A quick search of our records shows six shootings since the end of November 2018. Multiple shootings in October 2018 brought out an increased police presence on the roads, as well as saturated patrols and Operation Grizzly.
But the Tennessee Highway Patrol told us that operation is no longer going on.
Police say a stolen gun was found in the victim’s car.
