MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was injured after an apparent road rage shooting on the Jackson/Austin Peay exit ramp of I-40 Tuesday afternoon.
Police said a man in a black Nissan was upset because he thought he had been cut off and fired at a car with three people inside around 2:15 p.m.
“I heard three gunshots right in a row. Pow, pow, pow,” said Justin Lira.
Police said a 20-year-old woman was taken to Methodist North Hospital in non-critical condition after being injured by broken glass. They said there were two juvenile males in the car with her, none of whom were injured.
This is far from the first shooting on I-40. There were a string of shootings in 2018, culminating in a triple shooting on I-40 near North Watkins in October.
Things seemed to quiet down after that, but it appears the terror and uncertainty is back.
“You just hope and pray that no bullets come at you. This is the world that we live in now,” said Sarah Clark, who sometimes drives in the area.
“It’s unnerving, for sure. You don’t want to be driving and have to worry about that kind of thing,” said Lira.
Police said they have no indication that the shooter knew any of the victims prior to the shooting.
