MEMPHIS, Ten.. — One person was killed in a shooting east of downtown Memphis.
Police responded to a shooting call in the 600 block of Pontotoc near Orleans at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The neighborhood is half a mile from the FedEx Forum and a mile from Beale Street.
Investigators say the man was found unresponsive in his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives say this does not appear to be random. Police say the suspect is known to the victim.
The gunman was gone before investigators arrived.
Joe Woodall, who lives nearby, says although he was saddened to hear what happened, it wasn’t a complete shock.
“I’ve been all through Memphis, through Memphis, around Memphis, on top of Memphis,” Woodall said. “What happened across the way, can happen right here in your house. Don’t wish no bad luck on nobody.”
