Accusations of discrimination were flying at Monday’s County Commission meeting.

“This is a sexist opposition. I believe it with all my heart.”

“It does appear to be sexist. I hope it`s not.”

Those accusations were made because some of the commissioners opposed the appointment of Heidi Shafer as Budget Committee Chairperson.

In the end, Shafer’s appointment was approved on a close seven to five vote.

Women’s Rights Activist Paula Casey and Deborah Clubb from the Memphis Area Women’s Council were among a group of women at yesterday’s meeting, who came out to support Commissioner Heidi Shafer.
