MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a child and an adult were seriously injured in an accident on interstate 40 Thursday morning.

Police say the crash happened at I-40 east, west of Danny Thomas, at around 9 a.m. Both the child and adult went to the hospital in critical condition.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of I-40 and 300 E/Thomas were closed by police due to the accident. The affected area runs from I-40 near Watkins to U.S. 51 (Danny Thomas).

Memphis Police made the announcement at 9:30 a.m. More than three hours later, Memphis Police announced the lanes were open again.
