(Memphis) Your child’s safety at Shelby county schools is on the line.
A Kirby High student is under arrest after bringing a hand gun to school Tuesday.
In less than two months, more than a dozen weapons have been taken to Shelby County Schools.
Typically you see athletics around Kirby Hugh’s football field, but Tuesday it was a crime scene, sending parents and grandparents into a panic.
“It’s really sickening. It’s sickening to me. Some of these parents aren’t raising their children and they’re letting them do what they want,” said Willie Henry.
Around 9:30 Tuesday, Memphis police were arresting a student for bringing drugs to Kirby High School when they learned a different student brought a handgun to the school.
SCS says that tip came in anonymously.
The school was immediately put on lock-down and police found the student who allegedly brought the gun to school.
Officer say the student took them behind the building near the football field where the weapon was hidden.
The school’s principal says there was disagreement Monday in the neighborhood, and school officials worked swiftly in case they were connected.
“With the neighborhood we are in, it’s a challenge. We’re an urban high school, but we want to make sure the children come to a safe environment. They can’t learn if it’s not a safe environment,” said Dr. Reginald Williams.
People are being more vigilant after several lock-downs and recovered weapons at Shelby County Schools.
SCS officials say White Station High School was searched Monday after an anonymous tip came in that a stranger walking around the campus, but no one was ever found.
