MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is dead after police say a shooting happened on Beale Street and Riverside Drive Saturday night.

It was just before 11 p.m. when detectives say shots rang out, striking two teenagers. A WREG crew member captured the moment first responders desperately tried saving the life of a teen critically injured.

Police said one victim was a 15-year-old boy who was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

It was later confirmed that the teen was a student at Trezevant High School. MSCS said in a statement:

Memphis-Shelby County Schools is aware of the death of a Trezevant High School student; however, we are unable to share any personal details. Grief counselors are offering support for school students and staff. We share our deepest condolences with the family during this time.

A 16-year-old girl was also transported to Le Bonheur in non-critical condition.

Ray Newson said walking by the water is his moment to meditate, but now his thoughts have shifted as he is now focused on finding solutions to what he considers to be a growing crime problem.

“When a little kid gets shot, man that ain’t nothing to play about. That ain’t,” Newson said. “It’s real serious. Man we just have to stop the violence.”

No arrests have been made at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
