(WREG-TV) Corporal Christian Brown of Munford, Tenn., lost his legs in an explosion in Afghanistan.

This real-life American hero is getting help from Gary Sinise, a famous actor known for playing a war veteran in the movie Forrest Gump.

“The first time I was made aware of Christian was a story in the press a while back talking about him having trouble on an airplane,” Sinise said. “He wasn’t treated very well.”

Sinise, who recently starred in CSI New York, appeared on News Channel 3 Live at 9 Monday to talk about why he wanted to support Corporal Brown.

“I reached out to him to give him some support and send him a few things and told him that America was behind him,” Sinise said.

Sinise’s foundation and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation are hoping to build the corporal a smart-home.

“We have reached out to Christian to discuss the possibility of building him a home right there  in the Memphis area and Munford, and we are going to be doing that,” Sinise said.

Sinise also said he plans to do that by bringing his Lt. Dan Band to Memphis to raise money for Corporal Brown’s smart-home, like he’s done for other veterans.
