(Memphis) The Memphis Grizzlies took a break from practice to work in the garden today.
Point guard Mike Conley helped Bethel Elementary students plant vegetables in their new learning garden.
“They can learn from it, and hopefully build a better eating habit for when they get older,” said Conley.
The American Heart Association’s Teaching Garden gave all the materials, so students could learn the importance of fruits and veggies in their diet.
“It’s actually used to teach kids on how food is produced, where it comes from and getting them better eating habit,” said organizer Stephan Leonard.
Conley also invited the kids to watch his chef make his favorite salad. Many of the ingredients used will be grown in the school’s garden.
