UPDATE: Officials have reopened the lanes and traffic is moving again.
MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Memphis Police shut down part of the interstate after shots were fired in the area of I-40 and Covington Pike Friday night.
According to TDOT, police activity was reported at mile marker 10.2 at 6:50 p.m.
I-40 eastbound was shut down from Covington Pike to Summer and all eastbound traffic was diverted onto Covington Pike.
Police said officers on the scene located several shell casings. No injuries were reported.
There is no suspect information at this time.
This marks the 36th interstate shooting in Memphis this year, including one that left a woman injured on I-240 at the Mt. Moriah exit Tuesday night.
