SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. – Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and Memphis Police searched on the ground and from the air for a suspected carjacker who bailed out of a stolen car on Port Harbor Drive in Shelby County.
Tuesday afternoon, SCSO received an alert from a Flock Safety ALPR camera about a Toyota Corolla, taken during a carjacking in Memphis, in the area of Waverly Farms near Raleigh-Millington Rd

Deputies were able to arrest a female in the vehicle but said Andrew Brown, 23, took off running. Neighbors said they saw a helicopter and drones in the air but didn’t know who law enforcement officers were looking for.
“It’s too hot to be running,” said Tommy Ski,nner who lives in the area.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the Memphis Police Department provided air support, and a number of deputies were searching the area for Brown.
Employees at a Marathon on Waverly Farms Road said they saw deputies searching a wooded area next to the gas station.
Deputies eventually took Brown into custody behind a house in the 5000 block of Wagon Hill Road.

Brown is accused of taking the 2017 Corolla at gunpoint from a driver on Summer Avenue on June 13. The victim said Brown also took money out of his Wallet.
Court records show Brown plead guilty to attempted carjacking in 2017. Deputies said Brown admitted to getting rid of a gun while they were chasing him.
Neighbors on Port Harbor Drive watched as the stolen Corolla was towed away. Tommy Skinner said he doesn’t like seeing this kind of crime creep into his neighborhood.
“We waited a long time to buy this house,” he said. “We don’t need this kind of stuff. It’s a nice neighborhood. We look out for each other.”

Brown was charged with theft of property, evading arrest, tampering with evidence, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
He is scheduled to go before a judge on the new charges Thursday.
