MEMPHIS, Tenn.– A body was found inside a burning car in Millington Thursday morning, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a vehicle fire/accident at the dead end of Pilot Road at 8:30 a.m.

The sheriff’s department said fire units found a deceased victim in the front seat of the vehicle.

Officials have not if this is a homicide yet. But, it’s deeply troubling to many in the community.

“We don’t know what happened to this person,” said Kecia Thomas, who lives in the area. “We don’t know why. Whatever it was, it didn’t amount to somebody losing their life.”

Based on witness accounts and evidence at the scene, it appears the vehicle traveled down a dead-end road and then reversed into the woods, eventually, sparking a fire.

WREG has reached out to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for additional information and are still waiting to hear back. An autopsy is excepted to be conducted.
