(WREG-TV) Duke is a special dog who needs a special home.
Duke is a 2-year-old Great Dane mix who always has a silly look on his face, and is a sweet-natured and comical canine.
In September 2012, DUKE was hit by a car and a local rescue F.O.C.A.S. (Friends of the Community Animal Society) stopped to help.
Duke was taken from the scene to the Animal Emergency Center on Summer Ave. where he was diagnosed with a broken femur, dislocated pelvis and possible back injury.
Though his bones have healed, the type of back injury he sustained is still causing trouble with Duke using his back legs.
Through more donations and special “angels”, a cart was made for Duke from Eddie’s Wheels and he is able to run around and play like a dog should.
Once a week he goes for acupuncture and therapeutic laser therapy with Dr. Kathy Mitchener at Shelby Center Hospital for Animals in Bartlett.
Each day DUKE uses more muscles in his back feet and legs and can now wag his tail.
Dr. Mitchener says being a large breed it takes more time for the brain and the nerves to reconnect fully in the circle of communication from head to toe.
