(Memphis) There’s concern about an East Memphis robber on the loose.
The man is accused of robbing four women at gunpoint in the Kirby Station apartments, and police may have lost their only lead.
“I looked up to put my key in the lock and there was a gun in my face,” said the victim.
She is one of four woman robbed in the same East Memphis apartment complex and a man, who wants to remain anonymous, might be the only person who has seen the robber’s face.
“He had a really big smile and a tattoo on his arm.”
The man says he bought her stolen phone on Craigslist this weekend, likely from the man who held her up with a gun.
He had no idea at the time.
“This was really scary because I felt like I was in real danger because I met a guy who could have also harmed me.”
He says he met the man selling the phone in the parking lot in front of the Asiana Market on Mount Moriah.
He says the guy came on foot and told him that he lives in this area.
“I gave him the money and took the phone and left.”
He found out the phone was stolen because the phone was still receiving her text messages.
Right away, he returned the phone to police and wanted to help with the investigation.
He says on Sunday, detectives were still able to track the robber by the cellphone number he left on Craigslist, but by Monday, the phone was turned off.
“I feel like there was a good opportunity to get that guy on the day we reported him.”
WREG found the robber’s Las Vegas cellphone number listed in multiple previous ads on Craiglist.
Each time he goes by a different name: Bryan, Courtney, Amir, and in this most recent case, Jermaine.
In one ad he is selling a Galaxy s3, the same type of phone also recently stolen from another woman who was held up at Kirby Station Apartments.
“I think it is really scary to know that a guy who has already assaulted four people is still free.”
As for the victim, she still won’t come back home.
The man describes the robber as African-American, 5’8″ with a tattoo on his forearm.
He could be living somewhere in the Ridgeway-Hickory Hill area.
