MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Blytheville Police are looking for suspects after a child was shot multiple times Tuesday evening.
According to police, officers responded to a shooting call after 5 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Rose. They found a male juvenile with multiple gunshot wounds.
The boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Police did not release his exact age or address.
Sargent Robin Haught-Angel with the Blytheville Police Department couldn’t give a motive for the incident in which a juvenile male was reportedly shot several times.
Police released a picture of a suspect vehicle seen leaving East Rose Street, a white Infiniti SUV with drive-out tags and a broken driver’s side passenger window covered with clear plastic.
The occupants should be considered armed and dangerous.
According to police, the victim was playing outside with other juveniles when he was shot, but it’s unknown if the victim lives at the house hit by gunfire.
“Officers spoke with some people who were in the area at the time of the incident. We’ve asked them if they’ve got any information or anything they can share with us. We can keep it anonymous,” said Haught-Angel.
No one on East Rose Street wanted to talk to WREG about what they saw. Some residents said they weren’t home or they just don’t want to get involved out of fear of retaliation.
However, one resident said the gunfire sounded like a semi-automatic rifle.
The shooting comes as police face the harsh reality of youth violence in the city and getting guns off the streets is a priority for every neighborhood.
“We want the community to know that we are needing their assistance in figuring out who is behind this particular event and bringing them to justice,” said Haught-Angel.
