(Memphis) The Bluff City is expecting a visit from the royal family.
Prince William and Prince Harry are expected to be in Memphis over the weekend, along with thousands of fans for Beale Street Music Festival.
No one likes sitting in traffic, but with members of the royal family coming into town, it may be something drivers will have to deal with.
Charles Cook is a retired deputy chief with the Memphis Police Department.
He said law enforcement has probably already started getting ready.
“Our police department and sheriff’s department are probably meeting right now with the state department’s diplomatic security,” Cook said.
Cook weighed in on security and traffic flow when boxer Mike Tyson weighed in for his big fight against Lennox Lewis in 2002.
“That was an extremely difficult process because we did have so much going on at the same time,” Cook recalled.
The retired deputy chief knows a thing or two about how the roads may look this weekend.
“Well with the royals coming into town, I doubt very seriously that anyone will be blocked more than about five minutes,” Cook said.
Unlike when the president comes to town, the royals will be trying to keep a low profile.
“I think security has learned in a lot of cases, low profile is almost as effective as the high-profile type of arrival,” Cook explained.
The goal is to keep the royals safe in Memphis as they travel from point A to point B.
“Most likely they will be moving very quickly through the city — using the interstates when it’s possible, having alternate routes of course if they ever needed them,” Cook said.
