(Memphis) A man accused of violating the trust of his employer is behind bars on burglary charges.
Memphis police say Ulysses Maxwell broke into Daisy’s Soul Food and Wings to steal the owner’s cash, and it was all caught on camera.
Police say Maxwell was seen on video smashing a large concrete block through the door in order to get inside his boss’s restaurant and steal her money.
Daisy Jackson wasn’t in her restaurant Monday to talk about this workplace “violation,” but her employees tell us that she gave Maxwell work to help him out.
He would wash dishes and sweep up at her soul food restaurant on Third Street, but police say he eventually tried to clean Daisy out of her hard-earned cash.
“It’s heartless. Very heartless,” said customer Michael Polydore.
Police say at around 3 a.m. on April 30, Maxwell came to Daisy’s Soul Food with a large piece of concrete and smashed in her glass door so he could steal her money.
Workers say that Maxwell didn’t realize there was a camera out in the restaurant. He only knew about the camera up above the register. So in order not to be seen, they say he took the whole register and booked it out the door.
Even though police say Maxwell was easily identified from the video, it took officers more than two weeks to track him down.
They arrested him Sunday for stealing Daisy’s cash register, costing her $500 to replace, and for shattering her glass door.
At the time of the burglary, police say Maxwell only got away with $100, breaking the law and the trust of the woman who once gave him a paycheck.
Maxwell is charged with two counts of burglarizing a building. His bond is set at $7,500.
