MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Light Gas and Water (MLGW) bill for more than $50,000 could force hundreds of people from their homes.
People who live in Leahy’s Trailer Park said it has become a nightmare.
Emotions ran high Thursday outside of Leahy’s Trailer Park on Summer Avenue.
Residents got letters explaining the owner had fallen behind on the electric and water bill.
The MLGW bill was for $51,193.22.

“Just today, this morning, there is a sign put on the front saying that this parking lot is for sale,” Maria Rostro said.
The 18-year-old has called the trailer park home for more than a decade, and the people who live there are family.
Rostro gave WREG an inside look around the trailer park and inside her home.
She is afraid the more than 65 families and more than 200 people who live there will be on the streets.

“We paid our bills all of the time, we do everything for them, we give them all of our money,” Rostro said.
Her neighbors showed up with receipts and claimed they have paid their bills.
Now everyone who lives in the park wants to know what happened to their money.
WREG went looking for answers from the owner on Thursday.
John Leahy blamed MLGW for an ongoing leak the company told him is on the property.

“For the last five years we have searched for it, we have spent every dollar that we have had to spare looking for the leak because we knew this would be the death of us,” Leahy said.
A spokesperson for MLGW said it’s the landlord’s responsibility to make the repair and sent the following statement:
“Currently, MLGW is working with Leahy’s Mobile Home Park to resolve this situation in a mutually satisfactory manner for all parties involved.”
