TATE COUNTY, Miss. — One person is dead, and another is injured after a car crash in Tate County, Mississippi, Tuesday morning.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the accident on Highway 4 around 7 a.m.

According to MHP, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on Highway 4 when it collided with a Nissan Sentra that was traveling north on Gravel Springs Road. The Sentra attempted to make a left turn onto the highway before the accident.

A passenger in the Nissan, 61-year-old Carl E. Mahan of Senatobia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

MHP did not say if the driver of the Jeep was injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
