(Whiteville, TN) This past April 27, many lives changed due to the actions of Adam Mayes.

That’s the day Mayes murdered two people then kidnapped two young girls.

Mayes’ wife Teresa told police he wanted to kidnap 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain and her 12-year-old sister Alexandria. In the process, Teresa Mayes said 14-year-old Adrienne Bain and her mother Jo Ann were murdered.

May 10, Mayes killed himself and the two girls were rescued and sent home.

Since then, we’ve learned the two girls have different fathers and that could lead to more troubles for them.

More than a year ago, Mark Johnson signed over the fatherly rights to his daughters, Adrienne and Alexandria to Jo Ann Bain’s current husband Gary Bain.

Mark Johnson now wants his surviving daughter, Alexandria, back.

“It was a tough deal for him. He didn’t look at it like he was giving up his kids, but him and Jo Ann and Gary sat down and had a good agreement of what they were doing and why they were doing it. Now that Jo Ann is not in her life, he just wants to get her (Alexandria) back.”

That’s according the Mike Johnson, Mark’s uncle.

Saturday, Mark posted on his Facebook page that he didn’t care who he made mad, he needs a good lawyer to get his baby back.

His uncle believes that custody battle could be tough, “He signed his rights away and I think once you do that, if you go through the court, then it’s going to be a tough deal to get it back unless, Gary is providing and willing.”

But the Johnson family believes Gary is not willing.

Mark said Gary Bain is trying to take the girls to California.

He said Gary wants to spread the ashes of Jo Ann and Adrienne on the beaches there, and is afraid Alexandria and Kyliyah will never come back to Tennessee.

“I hope that Alex gets to come back with Mark and gets to bond with our family back with Mark,” said Mike Johnson.

Teresa Mayes is charged with two counts of first degree murder and four counts of especially aggravated kidnapping.

Mary, Adam Mayes’ mother is charged with four counts of being an accomplice to kidnapping.
