PANOLA COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities investigating the murder of 19-year-old Jessica Chambers said Thursday not to expect an arrest anytime soon.
Investigators are trying to piece together a timeline leading up to her murder.
Chambers was beaten and set on fire December 6.
Jessica was found alive and burning on Highway 51, she died a short time later but not before possibly identifying her attacker.
Ben Chambers, Jessica’s father, said he was told someone poured gas or another accelerant down her throat and up her nose.
Thursday, investigators said they cannot confirm an accelerant was used.
Autopsy results are expected Friday.
At a news conference Thursday, Sheriff Dennis Darby said every tip is being investigated.
District Attorney John Champion said there is a lack of talk on the street about this crime.
They said they have not had trouble getting people to talk with them, but they need more people to come forward with tips.
Investigators say it appears this is an isolated attack.
WREG sat down with two South Panola High School teachers who had Chambers in their classrooms.
Sarah Helen Ware taught Chambers math, and she was also her cheer coach.
Krissi Williams taught her in high school and in second grade.
Both women agreed Chambers was funny, outspoken, and very petite.
