WASHINGTON, D.C. — More Americans are dealing with medical debt.

A new government report shows about 20 percent of U.S. consumers, or nearly 43 million people, have unpaid medical debts.

One reason is people are confused by the notices they get from hospitals and insurance companies about the cost of treatment.
