MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A memorial service was held to honor the Former Mayor of Washington D.C., who grew up in the Bluff City.
The Memorial Service took place this Saturday morning in Memphis at Metropolitan Baptist Church on Walker Avenue.
Former Mayor Willie Herenton spoke at the service. Barry’s family, friends, former classmates also attended the service.
Barry moved to Memphis and was raised here since he was a child.
He graduated from Lemoyne-Owen College and got his start in civil rights causes in the Mid-South area.
Marion Barry died on November 23rd in Washington D.C.
