MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Families on one Frayser street are calling on the city to take care of a nasty, unsightly problem in front of their homes.
Residents on Slumber Lane and Slumber Cove told us their garbage has not been picked up by city workers since before Christmas, that’s more than two weeks.
The normal pick-up day is Thursday, but Christmas and New Year’s Day fell on Thursdays this holiday season.
According to the sanitation department website, the trash should have been collected the Wednesday before each holiday.
But Sunday afternoon, it was still there.
There’s some stray animals in the neighborhood getting into the rotten trash, making the mess worse.
“My son had to pick up trash because they had ripped the bags, so we had to pick up the trash to keep it clean. Because you don`t want it nasty and trash all over in front of your home,” said Kim Simmons.
Some neighbors reported spotting workers pick up trash at homes next to them and skipping over other houses.
Neighbors say the mishap doesn’t make sense because they’ve never had a problem before with trash collection.
Simmons just wants the problem fixed, and soon, “I have more trash and we have nowhere to put it.”
The city has yet to comment on the trash collection on Slumber Lane.
