MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The United Way of the Mid-South and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) opened three free tax prep locations Friday:

Hickory Ridge Mall
6074 Winchester Road

Raleigh Springs Mall
3386 Austin Peay
Open 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Southland Mall
1215 Southland Mall
Open 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.

All volunteers have completed IRS training for preparing and filing taxes.

“This program is a terrific free service for our Mid-South area, helping individuals and families become more financially stable,” Dave Skorupa, United Way VP of communications, said.

“The average price for preparing and filing taxes is roughly $180. Last year alone, these volunteers saved over 7,300 citizens more than $1.3 million by providing the service for free. When we look at what these returns generated in refunds, over $11.4 million came to our Mid-South area. That’s a total of $12.7 million boosting our local economy, in the hands of low-to-middle income citizens who can really use the money,” Skorupa added.

More sites will open later in January and February. You can call 211 or 901-415-2790 to find a location near you and to find out what you need to bring with you.
