MEMPHIS, Tenn. — People are demanding answers for the third time in less than four months. Complaints are coming in about no water at Hillview Village Apartments in South Memphis.
WREG first told you about people living there with a sewage overflow problem last year. The reason people don’t have water this time is completely different.
People who live in Hillview Village Apartments tell WREG they’re fed up because they’re constantly without water. They’re using big jugs just to get by.
“We’ll have to get this big jug of water right here and poor it in just so we can flush our toilet, and since the water been off, it’s been kind of hard,” Ronald Smith said.
Several people we spoke to say the problem started again Monday. Their water is turned off in the morning and comes back on late at night.
“When the water do come on, we’ll fill it up real quick so we can be prepared for the next day. It’s been going on for the past week,” Smith said.
The manager of the apartment complex who didn’t want to talk on camera blames a water main break.
“Very frustrating, babies need milk, people need water to keep they body healthy,” Robert Keith, who also lives in the complex, said.
Keith moved there eight months ago. He must go to the store constantly to get water so he can take care of his 8-month-old baby boy.
“Once I run out of jugs, if it’s a store closed or no stores around be giving us water, we’ll have to go pay for water, how will we pay when we don’t have no money,” he said.
The apartment manager says aging infrastructure is to blame for the problem and contractors are taking care of this issue.
