Update: A second charge of vehicular homicide has been filed against Sparkel Hastings.

Police say she hit two 11-year-old boys as they were walking Saturday in the Raleigh area.

One of the boys died that day, the other passed away Monday from his injuries.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The mother of an 11-year-old boy told WREG she was walking with her son when a driver hit him with her car.

Darryl Howard died Monday. The accident happened Saturday at Raleigh-Millington and Jones.

“It came up so fast behind us, and I turned around. All I could see was my baby flying in the air,” Darryl’s mother, Barbara Howard, said.

She said she was walking with three of her children and Darryl’s friend, Joshua McDowell.

The driver also hit and killed McDowell.

Police arrested Sparkel Hastings, the driver, on charges including vehicular homicide. She has a suspended license.

It’s unclear if she will face additional charges following the death of a second person.

Witnesses told WREG they saw Hastings and another woman fighting in a car that crossed the double yellow line at a high rate of speed and hit the boys.

Police cannot confirm anything about a possible fight.

Howard said there are no current funeral arrangements for Darryl.

There is a growing teddy bear memorial at the crash site.

“He was real cheerful, goofy, loved football, playing video games,” Howard said.

Howard said she wants both women in the car to be held accountable for what happened to both boys.

Hastings is due back in court February 2nd.
