MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Sasha, the dog shot by a home intruder last week, has been reunited with her owner thanks to WREG viewers.

The 2-year-old pit bull was shot in the neck. Her owner’s other dog, Queen, was shot in the head and killed.

Police say the shooter, 26-year-old Corwin Richardson, shot the dogs to get revenge because he thought the homeowner was giving police tips about stolen cars.

Sasha was taken to Memphis Animal Services because the owner couldn’t afford the medical costs, and was soon transferred to the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County for treatment.

The rescue group Pets Alive! learned of Sasha’s situation and stepped in to help.

“Instantly our phones started going off,” Linda Baxter with Pets Alive! said. “Text messages…Just an outpouring of support from our volunteers, from people we’ve never met before.”

The group, which works with owners keep their animals when they cannot afford life-saving treatment, helped get Sasha transferred to the humane society.

“We’re a group that will help you,” Baxter said. “There’s a vast public that will help you, and we have those network resources.”

MAS absorbed the cost of Sasha’s treatment there, and the humane society is waiving boarding costs. Several individuals quickly offered to help Sasha’s owner pay for the other costs so she could go home.

Queen belonged to her owner since he was a child, and watched out for him because he has sickle-cell anemia.
