SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Friends and family are pulling together to raise money for six children who lost their parents in a car crash in DeSoto County earlier this week.
Tina Maher, 27, and David Wyatt, 36, had only been engaged for a few hours when they got in the accident.
The couple hit a power pole while they were driving near Pleasant Hill and Baptist earlier this week. Weather is not believed to be a factor.
“They were on their way to show Tina’s sister, April, her ring,” Shannon Little said with a small smile.
Sitting at a table in Huey’s Restaurant in Southaven, Little explained the kind of person Maher was. Little was a co-worker of Maher’s, who was a server at Huey’s for the last ten years.
“It was tragic, I mean, what else is there to say, we’re all grieving,” Little said.
The white wreath hanging on the door of the restaurant shows the obvious signs of grief.
“She’s just a member of our big family,” Little said.
The news has been stifling to Maher’s coworkers. Her father and sister work at the same Southaven restaurant, a place where she basically grew up.
“I was talking to employees earlier about the many different ways she would liven up Huey’s and liven up people’s lives,” Little said.
But perhaps she lit up no ones lives more than her children. Tina leaves behind three kids and David leaves behind two. They also had a 9-month-old together.
Little said while it’s nearly impossible to ease the pain everyone is feeling, a gofundme account has been created to hopefully take care of some financial burdens for the children.
“The gofundme page is really important because there are six children that now need to be financially cared for,” she said.
