MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for West Tennessee, Eastern Arkansas and Northern Mississippi for freezing rain, sleet and snow. The advisory will go into effect at 9:00 PM this evening until 1:00 PM Monday. The winter weather is expected to move in this evening and continue throughout the night. Amounts of precipitation have decreased significantly in the latest model runs. The metro/I-40 corridor will still see mainly snow, mixed with some minor amounts of sleet/freezing rain across SW Tennessee, N Mississippi and east central Arkansas, and should still be occurring by Daybreak Monday on-air times.  Farther south, there will still be potential for frozen precip – sleet + freezing rain – but there will be less accumulation than before, as the bulk of the moisture will be lining up along and south of the WREG-TV viewing area. Heavier accumulations of 0.10”+ will be possible from north into middle MS. However, there will be localized areas that see greater amounts (possibly 0.10”+), but it seems the bulk of any activity will be in N MS, and possibly SE AR when it comes to ice. farther down towards Jackson, MS, away from the viewing area. This appears to be more freezing mist/drizzle than a hard rain with a thick glaze coating of ice. This will lead itself more to a black ice for area roadways, with the heaviest potential for ice just south of the viewing area. Bridges and overpasses will be the main problem areas. The ground temperature is just around freezing in many locations, so a few slick spots on normal roadways might be a problem, as well as bridges and overpasses. Also: temperatures around Daybreak/sunrise Monday will be in the teens and lower 20’s, so freezing of moisture will be an easy process.
