OXFORD, Miss. — Oxford saw several inches of snow accumulate Wednesday, in what the city’s Emergency Management said could be the worst yet of the February Freeze.
“We’ve got multiple vehicles that have had accidents. All of our ambulances are out on calls right now because of vehicle accidents,” Oxford Director of Emergency Management Jimmy Allgood said early in the afternoon.
Allgood said the city of Oxford has a snow plow and Public Works crews have been putting down gravel and sand for traction.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) said crews treated the roads in Lafayette County Wednesday morning ahead of the wintery blast.
The Oxford School District was closed Wednesday, as were Lafayette County Schools and Ole Miss.
WREG visited the college’s campus, where many students made snowmen and participated in snowball fights.
