Memphis Mayor AC Wharton says if you don’t need to be out on these dangerous roads, stay home.

City offices opened Thursday morning despite the dangerous conditions out there.

Mayor AC Wharton says it’s best the city not have a closed policy.

Despite the bad roads, the city hall in Memphis opened its doors at 10 a.m.

“Always the question is, why don’t we just close,” Wharton said.

Wharton says because the city has 24/7 operations such as public works, it’s best to stay open even on days like Thursday.

People who live in the city don’t disagree with the mayor’s decision.

“I think that they waited long enough for the streets to be safe enough for them to get down here and see if there was anything they need to deal with,” Nathaniel Jones who lives in Memphis said.

Wharton says salt was placed at other operations such as hospitals, police precinct lots, and fire stations for city workers.

“We ask the employees to use good judgement, we ask supervisors to be considerate of those who are not in the central operation such as what we have here today,” he said.

Although Jones thinks it’s a good idea for city offices to remain open, he knows others may disagree.

” I’m sure there’s going to be some negative words as far as them coming down here but I really do believe that it wasn’t a thing that they were doing anything other than trying to take care of our city,” he said.
