MEMPHIS, Tenn. — At Overton Park Thursday, there was certainly no lack of energy from almost 100 kids who came with sleds in tow.

Jayme Bailey and her son Noah came to speed down the hills and have a good time.

“It’s a blast! We never get to do stuff like this in Memphis. We have had this sled for a couple years and haven’t had a chance to use it,” she said. “So, we’re having a really good time!”

But other kids sledded on the opposite side of the hill, some even sliding into the road near on coming cars.

The tragedy of an Ole Miss college student who died after hitting a sign while sledding was still fresh on Bailey’s mind.

She said she chose where her family would play very carefully.

“There are people sledding behind cars coming up and down McLean. They are getting pulled. So, you really need to be careful,” she said.

Bailey believes it is every parents responsibility to make sure their kids are protected.

“Even though it’s fun, there are cars out, and you just have to be safe,” she said.

But, as long as everyone is sledding safely, she says there’s no reason it should be anything but fun.
