MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A bus driver caught on camera cursing at children was placed on administrative leave.
The incident is the latest of many issues and incidents plaguing drivers — from accidents to arrests.
From social media to the set of WREG’s Live at 9, just about everyone is talking about the driver encouraging kids to fight or get back on the bus.
“Did she do the right thing?” asked WREG’s Alex Coleman during Live at 9.
“At the end of the day its never okay to encourage kids to box it out,” said Shelby County School Board Member Kevin Woods.
One of the Bolton High School students’ parents said the video has her concerned about her son’s safety.
“I’m kind of shocked,” said Kathy . “I don’t know if I want him to ride the bus anymore.”
The mother is demanding the bus driver be fired and away from children.
However, Chris Caldwell, a Shelby County School board member, said everyone’s feet should be held to the fire.
“I think we all should be held responsible,” Caldwell said. “First it goes to the individual– the bus driver. Then it goes to Durham. Then it goes to the administration, and the board.”
This incident is not the first problem the district has had with Durham School Services. Last week, WREG reported a school bus driver involved in two accidents this year. The driver was retrained after the first accident. According to Durham School Services, the driver may be retrained again after their current investigation.
The school district released an email statement saying “our expectations of student conduct extend to the school bus and any students found to have been disruptive will be disciplined.”
“I do think she’ll probably be the next training video of what not to do for Durham come next year,” said Woods.
