MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  The Shelby County Medical Examiner has released the cause of death for a man killed over the weekend on I-240 at Mount Moriah.

Dewitt Parker, 37, died from his injuries resulting from the crash, not a gunshot wound as investigators first thought.

Police were called to the scene of the crash Sunday evening.

That’s where they found Parker dead inside his 2006 Nissan Maxima.

Witnesses told police they saw him speeding with his arms extended up through the sunroof.

He then hit a retaining wall and was pronounced dead at the scene.
