COMO, Miss. — A five-year-old was killed when fire ripped through his trailer in Como, Mississippi early Friday morning.
Neighbors rushed to the burning mobile home in Jones Trailer Court just off Highway 51 to help.
They were able to get the boy’s young mother out a back door, but couldn’t get to him in time.
“I tried my best to save that baby. I stopped breathing because there was too much stuff going into my lungs and stuff,” said Ray Doyle.
Doyle said he went into the home and yelled for the boy, but eventually was overcome by the smoke and had to go to the hospital himself.
Michelle Leverson lives in the trailer next door and was one of the last people to see the child alive.
The fire started to spread to her home and melted the plastic on her windows.
She told us she couldn’t imagine the trailer park without the child.
“He was five. He didn’t do nothing but smile. He was at my house earlier to rap. He was so cute and now he’s just gone,” said Leverson.
So far, the child’s name has not been released .
No word yet on what started the fire.
