MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested for threatening to run over a 2-year-old child.
Lorenzo Johnson was charged with aggravated assault and vandalism after police say he told a woman would back over a toddler to get away in a car with drugs inside.
“It’s very disturbing,” neighbor Tonya Howard said of the incident.
Howard lived right next door to the home on Glenroy Drive in Southeast Memphis where police said Lorenzo Johnson threatened to run over a 2-year-old.
“I think I saw the ambulance and the fire department, but I didn’t know what was going on,” she said.
Police said Johnson showed up at the home banging on the front door and wanted to be let in.
The homeowner, Cheryl Johnson, told him to go away.
Instead, police said he went around to the other side of the house near the garage.
Police said Cheryl Johnson went to open the garage door to try and get Lorenzo’s license plate number, but he charged inside and jumped into her niece’s car, the one he said he had dope inside of.
A 2-year-old came into the garage and was standing behind the vehicle.
Police said Cheryl yelled at Lorenzo that the child was behind him, but he told her he did not care and was going to leave anyways.
Cheryl grabbed the child, but got pinned and bruised between the two vehicles in the garage.
The child was not hurt.
Howard said she was glad Lorenzo was locked up, especially if he had that little regard for a 2-year-old’s safety.
