GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Germantown said you may see seven extra cops on the streets.
The city said it was teaming up with local pastors to talk about public safety and other topics.
Just like Collierville , Germantown also experienced a rash of car break-ins.
The mayor spoke with local pastors about using churches for seminars and other things on public safety.
Germantown Mayor Mike Palazzolo told WREG the open dialogue was important.
“We need to hear the faith community speak more about non violence,” he said. “Anytime you have a strong faith based community, you can do so much good in your community, they can provide mentorship.”
Palazzolo said in order for the city to move forward, groups needed to know the city’s strengths and weaknesses.
“We surveyed 2300 last year and the number one priority is continually each year public safety so this budget cycle matter of fact we’re doing some budget assessment to see about an additional police district,” he said.
Pastor Donal Ester with Bethel Baptist said additional officers were needed but added pastors needed to be more active in the community.
“But it’s areas I think that we can come together and overall help this city,” he said.
The funds for extra officers would come out of general funds.
