MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The sign may welcome you in at a Madison Avenue salon, but these days the doors remain locked thanks to a group of teenagers who were here last weekend.
“Mob squad or whoever they were came by pulling on our door and holding up gang signs,” said Keith Turks, the salon owner.
As the weekend nears, business owners in Midtown said they were hoping they don’t see a repeat of the past two weeks where teens walked down Madison Avenue smashing cars, and not far away, beat a man at a BP gas station.
“What if the door had been unlocked? It would have been a totally different story; someone could have been dead,” said Turks
Police heard the concern.
They were out in full force on Broad Street Friday night, trying to reassure everyone that area was safe too.

Playhouse on the Square has a huge fundraiser Saturday night.
“We’ve done so much to make Overton so wonderful I don’t want a few individuals to negate all the hard work and wonderful things going on here,” said Noby Edwards, with the theater.
The money they raise will help pay for other activities to keep young people off the street.
