MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One woman was lucky on Tuesday after her car drove off an overpass in Shelby County.
Memphis Fire crews told WREG the woman was driving on Poplar Avenue and fell over the overpass onto Scott.
The car landed upside down not far from the business where Johnathan Martin works.
The woman was inside the car screaming to get out and that was when Martin and another person took action.
“She was binding the seat belt around her neck, so we reached in and cut the seat belt and the two of us pried the door open to at least let her roll over on her back,” Matin told us.
He said they didn’t want to move the woman until another concern caught their attention.
“The front of the car was smoking so I ran to the front of the car to make sure there weren’t any flames or anything,” he recalled.
After getting out safe, the woman was taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
She has since been upgraded to non-critical.
Police believed she drove right through some metal posts connected to the concrete.
No word yet on what caused the crash.
